Poor Caemlyn

December 18th, 2007

We took our family Christmas card picture Saturday afternoon, then we all went to the park sledding. Caemlyn had told me she could sled standing, so being the foolish parents we are, we encouraged her to do it so we could see. It was a tiny hill and she was doing fine, but ended up falling. Instead of falling on her rear, she stepped off and twisted as she fell. Long story short, she broke her tibia in a rather impressive spiral fracture. Thank goodness her growth plate wasn’t affected and everything stayed straight enough that she doesn’t need surgery. She got a splint in the ER, and I took her down to the Ortho in Espanola this morning for her full cast.

Kinda puts a damper on Christmas vacation activities with Grandma and Grandpa and cousins in California. Flying logistics will be interesting, to say the least.
Any ideas on decorating her cast for Christmas? She didn’t get to choose a color, just got boring white. I suggested getting a big, red sharpie and turning it into a candy cane. Oh, we could also use clothing suggestions, as she’ll likely be in a cast for the next couple of months.

Man O’ Man!!! That is one long skinny cast. I feel so badly this will put a damper on her vacation. We will have fun anyway, and I will take her to the nail salon for a pedicure and some festive art on her toenails :)
I think sweats and knit pants should work for school and play. Skirts and ’80s leg warmers are in style too. The hard part is going to be keeping her toes warm and the bottom of the cast clean. I think if you request the bulkhead seating on the plane, she should have enough leg room.
I will get some glitter pens for all to sign her cast. Is it the kind of cast that can get wet, or is she going to have to bathe with her leg out of the tub??
