Grand Canyon

April 2nd, 2008

The kids are home this week for Spring Break, so we took a long weekend trip to see the Grand Canyon. This is truly one of God’s amazing creations. And the kids were such troopers with all of the hiking. Too bad our hotel was a dive. lol I’ve just barely uploaded the pics to the computer, so I’ve only got a few to share for now, but many more will be posted here.
Our very first view of the canyon.

How Tyghe spent most of the trip. He was such a good baby and enjoyed his view from daddy’s back.

Our one family pic from the trip – at the beginning of our hike down the Bright Angel trail into the canyon.

This is the first of 2 arches you walk through at the beginning. We went down 1 1/2 miles, which was a drop of over 1100 feet in elevation. The trail wasn’t too hard for our seasoned hikers (with our nice altitude advantage), except for the snow, ice, mud and mule poop in many spots. We had to take it slow and easy. The kids really did a great job, with minimal complaining. Ada had the hardest time (as expected), but the promise of ice cream later went a long way in keeping her spirits up. I did end up carrying her the last bit of the way up, since she had done so well and I needed the extra workout.
