Memorial Weekend

May 29th, 2008

With the end of the school year and a holiday weekend, we thought it would be fun to go camping. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably cold and wet, so the result was a camp-in.

Thank goodness for the fireplace - roasted hot dogs and s’mores were still tasty!

As is common with our high desert weather, Monday was beautiful! We took Justin on his first visit to Bandelier National Monument. It’s practically in our backyard, so it’s crazy that he’d never been before. We had a lot of fun hiking and climbing in the many “homes” carved into the canyon wall. Now for picture overload. lol

Lots of ladders to climb to get into the canyon houses.

Tyghe’s position for much of the hike, just so he could see what everyone else was up to.

I just thought this was kinda creepy!

Caemlyn and Zephram down in a ceremonial kiva, after climbing 4 ladders and 140 vertical feet.

Looking out a “window” of one of the cave homes.

An actual preserved pictograph that is now behind glass. Pretty rare to see these so clearly, and just as odd to see a sheet of glass in the middle of a canyon wall.

No pics of me since I had the camera, and was also looking kinda icky after riding my bike out there to meet the rest of the family.

Random Stuff

May 29th, 2008

We’ve had a busy past couple of weeks, leaving me with a lot of catching up to do. I’m devoting this post to the random stuff that we’ve been up to.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed a big dirty spot on our family room window. Upon further inspection, this is what I saw…

Yes, that is a bird print, and no, the bird was no, the bird was not on the ground below.

One of the many gifts Justin got me for Mother’s Day was a new cake pan.

That’s a full size dinner plate, holding one giant cupcake! Tyghe liked it.

And here’s a pic of Tyghe I couldn’t not share - napping yesterday morning.

I’ll never understand how someone can sleep in such a position.

Ada Jane

May 29th, 2008

Since Ada was my only child not mentioned in my goals post, I figured I’d write one just for her. Being 3, she’s not involved in many activities like the big kids, or reaching milestones, like Tyghe. BUT, she certainly keeps me on my toes! She is one smart cookie. We’ve been working on teaching her to recognize her letters, and in the process, she learned to write her name. Granted, it doesn’t get much easier than ADA, but I was still impressed. She has big, beautiful, hazel eyes that light up the room when she smiles. I can usually see in them when she’s hiding something as well…which seems to be quite often lately. She’s turned into my little clepto, so we’re working on teaching her not to take things that aren’t hers. I read somewhere recently that lying in young children is a sign of intelligence - I hope that’s it, and not something worse! lol

11 months

Tyghe is only one month away from his 1st birthday! I can’t believe it. He is such a sweet baby, and a TOTAL mama’s boy. He gives me the best cuddles, hugs and kisses…and will sometimes share with daddy and his siblings…but NEVER with anyone else. Can you say “stranger anxiety”. I hope he outgrows it soon. He’s learning quickly how to get in trouble and make big messes. We all adore our little Tygher.

Meeting Goals

May 11th, 2008

The last few weeks have been pretty busy - and we have a good bit to show for it. The kids have been accomplished so much and made their mommy very proud.

A couple of weeks ago Zeph learned to ride his bike.

Justin got a fire pit for his birthday, so when the weather cooperated we had to roast hot dogs and make s’mores. A baby’s first s’more is always memorable. Here’s Tyghe with his - not all together, but he did get all of the components.

Caemlyn got to learn several Mexican dances and perform them for parents as part of the 3rd grade Cinco de Mayo celebration. I made her skirt when she previously took a folklorico dance class, and made the blouse just for this occasion. I forgot to take the camera with me, so no action shots or video.

At the end of April Kezia got to go to kindergarten round up to meet the K teachers and for mommy to get “info”. She had fun and is excited to FINALLY go to school. She is so beyond ready. Then this weekend she danced in her 3rd dance recital. It’s amazing how much she has improved since last year’s recital. And as beautiful a ballerina as ever.
