Memorial Weekend
With the end of the school year and a holiday weekend, we thought it would be fun to go camping. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably cold and wet, so the result was a camp-in.

Thank goodness for the fireplace – roasted hot dogs and s’mores were still tasty!
As is common with our high desert weather, Monday was beautiful! We took Justin on his first visit to Bandelier National Monument. It’s practically in our backyard, so it’s crazy that he’d never been before. We had a lot of fun hiking and climbing in the many “homes” carved into the canyon wall. Now for picture overload. lol

Lots of ladders to climb to get into the canyon houses.

Tyghe’s position for much of the hike, just so he could see what everyone else was up to.

I just thought this was kinda creepy!

Caemlyn and Zephram down in a ceremonial kiva, after climbing 4 ladders and 140 vertical feet.

Looking out a “window” of one of the cave homes.

An actual preserved pictograph that is now behind glass. Pretty rare to see these so clearly, and just as odd to see a sheet of glass in the middle of a canyon wall.
No pics of me since I had the camera, and was also looking kinda icky after riding my bike out there to meet the rest of the family.

we need to come visit so we can see the caves– they look awesome! What fun to be had. We too had a weird, rainy memorial day weekend and then hot, humid weather the next day….strange. This year the weather has been well, more seasonable I guess.
ok, one last comment
…your kids are all so beautiful. that first photo made me miss ‘em a ton! and what a cool place…it reminds of the Valley of Fire in Nevada…which makes me miss that great big sky, big rocks, western feel…good thing we’re heading that way soon
see you then.
What a fun weekend even of the weather wasn’t the best. I like you photos, what a cool place to visit.
Fond memories of our day at Bandelier – but not fond memories of visit to the restroom with Zeph. Do you recall that event? Campouts are fun, but camp-ins are more memorable!! Wishin I could just snuggle in with all of those cute kids.
What a fun day!! We just got back from Yellowstone and so we couldn’t camp either due to rain and SNOW…Mackenzie was amazed by the white stuff!!
I SO miss NM and Bandelier!! So fun! Every time we are there we go! Did you know that Tom’s mom, Joani, designed the logo for the centennial.
