Destruction
We’ve been going through our share of destruction lately, so I thought I’d share a bit of it with you. As you may recall, we were recently affected by a close lightning strike that fried our phones, satellite and some computers. You may also be aware that we have a very large spruce tree in our front yard. This tree is about 60 feet tall and causes a fair amount of destruction to our yard and property. Due to this, we have been getting estimates on having this tree cut down. One service came today to check it out, and noticed something we hadn’t seen before.

A fresh lightning scar. This tree is only about 10 feet or so in front of our house. I guess this explains the damage we experienced. Thank goodness the tree didn’t explode or crash down on our house, causing greater amounts of destruction.
Next on our list, is our front walkway. We have had a rather thick slab of cement in front of our house that served as a ramp/walkway. We’ve been in the process of attempting to remove this cement ramp, but due to the thickness of the concrete, it has been a slow, difficult process. Justin recent came upon a product that is somewhat like liquid dynamite – minus the explosion. It’s not cheap, but if it worked, we knew we’d save a large amount of time and energy. Last week, the product arrived and we mixed and poured it into the many 1″ holes that Justin had drilled into the slab. It took a couple of days, but it worked!

At it’s height, the slab was 16+ inches deep. We’ve only done a few sections so far, and still have plenty more to do before getting it all out. But, the results were impressive.
Last of all, I thought I’d share a bit of minor destruction we experience on a daily basis.

We don’t always remember to put the wipes boxes where Tyghe can’t reach them. lol

asher loves wipes too! maybe we can get them together and they’d clean for us!
Ok I love it! What a great blog post title!! And as you all can probably imagine, Ben is quite the wipes king himself. And he actually does clean with them, he wipes the table and is quite proud of himself for it.
Wow! about the tree and glad the liquid dynamite worked!
WOW! WOW! WOW! – to quote Sam Runyan. Wow to the lightening strike. Glad you weren’t all fried as you sat having prayer over dinner – good thing you were prayin, rather than diggin right in. And Wow to the liquid dynamite. Cool stuff!! And WOW to the wipes – call it Wipes On WeTweet!
Fun scar! And I can’t believe the amount of concrete those people placed for the ramp. Glad you found an easier way to break it all up. And as for the wipes…we too have had many emptied wet wipe cases. Little boogers.
I’m sorry to hear about the destruction. I’m glad no one was husrt, just the tree. Ya know in the midwest lightening doesn’t come as strikes, it just lights up the whole sky like day. I never saw a lightening bolt until I moved out west!
Yeah, we had a tree hit by lightning a couple years ago, and I saw it happen and I was tasting metal for a day. Big old scar down it. Of course it died and we had it removed. But it also started a fire in the palmetto brush underneath and we had to call 911 and everything. It was pretty scary; only about 30 ft from the house. Glad all is ok, my friend had a tree fall into their house and it was really inconvenient.
