Jesus the Christ
25. D&C 76:22–24
The gospel of Jesus Christ can bring us peace. As we follow the example of Jesus and do what He has taught us to do, we are blessed with the influence of the Holy Spirit. During times of trouble or when we feel afraid, the Holy Ghost will be with us, and we can feel this peace in our hearts. The Holy Ghost helps us remember Jesus and obey His teachings.

Merry Christmas!

Having 5 kids in Primary, I’ve always thought it was a good thing. However, I think my feelings will all change now that I’ve been called as the new Primary President in our ward. Got my counselors all chosen and called pretty quickly and we were all sustained at set apart at church today. I feel so clueless as to what actually goes on in Primary and I’m not even quite sure where to start. I told Justin after church that I don’t think I’ve been told congratulations so much since our wedding. lol It is nice to know that so many people in the ward are supportive and think that I can do it. With the holidays, I’ll be the only one in our new presidency at church next week, so it’ll be all up to me. Hope the kids will be forgiving.
In other events, I’ve acquired a new talent this past week. Never thought it was something I’d be able to do, but my girls are pleased that I can.

The EQ in our ward also sponsored an ice skating activity yesterday at the local canyon rink. Kez and Tyghe had been sick so they stayed home with dad while I took the rest of the kids to skate. They all had a lot of fun and asked if we could go again soon. Ada did quite well for her first foray into ice skating. Didn’t have my camera with me, so cell phone pics will have to do.

The kids are now out of school for winter break, and we’re still busy getting ready for Christmas. So much to do, so little time. Wwwwhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

It started snowing yesterday morning, and snowed lightly and constantly throughout the day. We were left with several inches of snow at dinnertime. Our driveway makes the perfect sledding hill for little kids, so that’s what Ada and Tyghe did all day, along with our friends that were here for the day. The Lab closed at 2:30 due to the snow, and once the kids got home on the bus at their normal time, they all went sledding until dinnertime.

Well, that was just the beginning, as this is what we had this morning…

And…IT’S STILL SNOWING!!!

This weekend was the annual Winterfest with a variety of activities that we don’t participate in. However, we always go to the free breakfast with Santa that Kiwanis puts on at the Senior Center. They even take free pics with Santa (who badly needs a new wig and beard). Tyghe was OK until I tried putting him on Santa’s lap, so this was the result. Don’t ask what Zeph’s problem was. lol

We also went to the very neat light parade downtown. They shut off all of the street lights and the parade is lit up with tons of twinkle lights. It’s usually freezing cold during the parade, but this year it wasn’t too bad since it got up to 50 degrees today. Since it’s quite dark, I didn’t get any pics to share. I guess I could take a pic of the pile of little candy canes the kids came away with. Tyghe was mesmerized by all of the lights and watched the whole thing (it’s not very long) without complaint.

Now that my gift has been received, I thought I’d share my recent big crochet project. Using a pattern from gourmetcrochet.com, I made a nativity to add to my moms collection. It’s somewhat comical, but took a lot of detail work that I don’t typically do. It’s hard to tell from the pic, but the people are about 6″ tall.

Another project I whipped up last night is a gift for Ada’s friend’s birthday today. I asked Ada what she would like me to make for her friend, and she requested pink slippers, so this is what I came up with.

Thanksgiving
We usually stay home, but due to circumstances, we thought it best to travel to Washington to spend Thanksgiving with Justin’s parents. 2 days of driving each way is less than ideal, but at least gas prices aren’t what they were when we did our road trip this summer. We stopped at BYU and picked up Justin’s niece so she could spend the holiday at home with her family (her dad has lung cancer, but is doing extremely well). We mostly hung out with Grandma and Grandpa, and the kids got to spend a good amount of time playing with cousins. Justin and I were able to go to the Portland temple with his parents and did a good amount of running on their impressive hills. Thanks to Mike and Monica for a fabulous Thanksgiving meal. Justin’s mom and I made the pies and rolls (Thanks cousin Sara for sharing your squash buns recipe - they were yummy!). And Justin couldn’t have turkey without our cornbread and chorizo stuffing - so I made that as well.
Unfortunately, I often forgot the camera, so I don’t have many pics. Most of what I do have isn’t fit for sharing - kids caught giggling in the middle of the night, me leading the kids in an evening dance workout (Justin took pics from behind, ugh) and lots of the kids reading (mostly Calvin and Hobbes). However, we did stop for lunch in Arches National Park on our way home. It was a beautiful day (except for the wind) and we spent a bit of time seeing a few arches and impressive rock formations. The camera was ready and I got some very nice pics of the kids and the scenery.

The kids just after lunch with the wide open space behind them.

Double arch.

And now I’m trying unwind from the trip and gear up for the busy holiday season ahead. I’m thankful for the many blessings and bounty that I have and look forward to carrying that forward into Christmas and sharing it with dear family and friends.

Ada and her fairy castle cake.
We’ve been away on vacation for a week, but before we left, we celebrated Ada Jane’s 4th birthday. She was so excited to turn 4 and have a birthday party. We invited her group of friends over for a magical fairy party. (and I was relieved when it was all over)

Ada and her friends with their fairy wings that they painted.
We made up cute invitations that sported a good amount of fairy dust, but my favorite part was the fairy dust necklaces we made for all of her friends.

Ada has such a wonderful personality. She’s sweet and cuddly and loud and demanding. She’s not afraid to tell you what she wants. She’s a little girl with a big voice. She loves preschool and playing with her friends. As a keepsake for her, I’d love it if you’d share your thoughts/memories of Ada in the comments.
