She can fly!

January 21st, 2009

This past weekend Caemlyn and Justin had another swim meet here in town. Caemlyn did very well, improving all of her times. She also swam her first 50 butterfly. I’m so proud of her.

I didn’t get any decent pics of her 50 free.

Justin also did very well in his events, dropping almost a full second from his 200 free time.

Also last week was the school science fair. Kezia’s first grade class got to do a neat project on sun spots. One of the parents of a classmate is a physicist at the lab and brought a large, fancy telescope to school for them to use to look at the sun’s activity. Quite a neat opportunity.

Zephram’s GATE class also did a project. They first attempted one on silk worms, but they all died, so they ended up doing their project on snails.

Busy, busy, busy

January 12th, 2009

There’s only one way to describe the last few weeks, and explain why I haven’t posted.  We have been so busy!  Between kids’ activities (which are plentiful now) and my new calling - my priorities have not been with keeping up the blog.  I will do my best though.
I will do as brief of a recap as I can to cover events since Christmas.

Christmas was nice and low key here at home. The kids were very happy with the gifts they got - and thank goodness, since Justin and I worked hard on some of them. Here are some of the favorites…

Caemlyn’s new mp3 player.

Kezia and Ada’s new puppet theater. Justin and I were painting this on Christmas Eve and Justin was up early Christmas morning putting it together. It’s huge! at 4 foot square for just the center piece. I also made the hand puppets for the girls.

Our new living room coffee table. Well, not really. It’s Tyghe’s train table (used non-stop for mega blocks) that is just the right size for a coffee table. All of the kids have played with this on a daily basis.

Caemlyn scored big this year, as along with her mp3 player, she also got a new desk for her bedroom. This is no ordinary desk, but a custom job by mom and dad. She only got a coupon for it on Christmas, but it was all ready and installed before the new year. Building it after Christmas allowed Caemlyn help pick the colors and design of the paint job (that mom did).

New Year’s celebrations were low key, except for the friends that Caemlyn and Zeph had over for a sleepover. They enjoyed all of the “poppers” at midnight. New year’s day here was beautiful, so we took the kids out for a nice tromp through the snow near Bandelier. Tyghe rode in the backpack on daddy’s back, while mommy pulled Ada in the sled. This was really the only option since the snow came up to MY knees in some places. I didn’t bring the camera, but did snap a few pics on the cell.

One of Zeph’s Christmas gifts was a kit to build 6 different projects. He built his first one, a birdhouse, over Christmas break to fulfill a cub scout requirement.

And in the last week, Kez and Ada started swim lessons (Zeph starts this week), and they both also started dance. Ada is in creative movement, and Kez is in ballet 1 and doing a nice job of picking up where she left off last spring. Kezia also lost her first tooth!

One final pic of my littlest ones enjoying my big Christmas gift, an ipod touch. Tyghe loves anything electronic, so I let him watch youtube videos on the itouch on occasion to keep him from screaming too much.

Since this doesn’t even mention all of the stuff I’ve been busy with as primary president as well, I’m off for a sanity saving 4 miles (on the treadmill). Along with our many goals for the year, I’d like to run another 1/2 marathon, and also do the LA triathlon again so I’m working on getting my mileage up.

Oh yeah, we also woke up to the heat not working this morning (and 16 degrees outside). Luckily I was able to buy a new thermocouple in town and Justin was able to replace it and get the boiler running again before he was too terribly late for work.
